THE COLLEGE STUDENTS AND STAFF WATCH IN HORROR A KILLING OF A STUDENT...

Although, the Political violence is not that common these days as it used to be in the past but it has not been crushed yet completely in our country. It rears it ugly face on and off in various parts of our nation prior to or during elections because Indian law & order has not tackled this malady stringently with sufficient force. The State, West Bengal is known to be the hotbed of political violence where it occurs pretty frequently.

Yesterday again in west bengal, a student was beaten to death in a clash of two students unions of Congress and Trinamul Congress inside the union room. The victim identified as Krishna Prasad Jana, a BA Third Year student of Sajanikanta Mahavidyalaya, was battered to death with sticks and bats in cold blood because he refused to attend a relief distribution programme in felicitation of West Bengal Minister, Soumen Kumar Mahapatra of current government which was his fundamental right.

It is believed that Jana was a member of Chhatra Parishad (CP), the congress students' wing. There is a state-wide outrage over this inhuman killing especially because it has political bearing to it. The cops have nabbed three students after CP filed FIR against Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) and it filed counter complaint immediately in its defence. Trinamool Congress has refuted the allegations that their students were involved in the killing.

The CCTV footage that has been retrieved from the college administration is yet to be examined to get to the truth behind this murder. As a mark of strong protest yesterday, the congress supporters had taken to streets to put up road blockades in the city calling for State wide strike on Saturday & condemning lawlessness and demanding justice. As usual, CM, Mamta Banerjee joined the chorus of condemnation and denied the charges that her party was party to this heinous crime.

Can this meaningless political violence be justified in democracy?
